About my work

I was born and raised in São Paulo – Brazil, where I still live and work. I had my first guided contact with materials and techniques in the workshops of the faculty of industrial design, but my development within contemporary art is a personal process.

The focus of my work is the intrinsic dialect of matter: the natural and the artificial, the functional and the aesthetic, the living and the inanimate, the ritual, the physiological and the sacred. In my research, I seek to dissect and reduce the complexity of existence into indivisible particles of meaning, recombining them into my own narrative.

In my process, I combine materials from multiple sources such as wood, ceramics, concrete, plaster, paper, copper, ropes, threads, fabrics, bones, horns, seeds, prefabricated objects, and transform them by means of modelling, depositing, burning, curing, carving, woodworking and 3D projecting.

My human goal is to make visual arts my profession, but as an artist, I seek to direct my gaze out of the contemporary art context, to find what unites us and what divides us as a species. I want to be able to produce larger artworks, public installations, that go beyond the limits of aesthetics, of time, and off from our anthropocentric understanding of things.

History is built upon fragments of material memory. And, in my anonymous and finite existence, I cast my artworks for two distinct groups of interlocutors: 

  • My contemporaries: other artists, art appreciators, and our society as a whole; 
  • And the ones (whoever they may be) who will eventually unearth the remains of my work in a future so distant that it’ll be impossible for anyone to reconnect them to their current meaning, so they’ll have their uncodifiable meaning exposed at last.
